The Aransas  County Appraisal District has finally released the appraised values for our condos. They show no rhyme or reason to me. One two bedroom on the bayside is appraised at $184,870 and another on the bayside at $266,160. Three bedroom condos range from $278,580 to $210,750. Several two bedroom condos are appraised at more than a three bedroom condo. In one case they are next to each other in the 500 building.
A few years ago the appraisal chief decided to start taxing the furnishings of condos up for rental since the furnishings were being used to produce income. These values are all over the place. The highest is a two bedroom condo in the 200 building where it is at $9,130. Some are not taxed at all on contents.
To make protests more difficult, the 2017 values were not shown online until after the protest period had ended. I may have been a part of that. Last year the owner of a condo in the 300 building asked me to protest for him. He was far above condos around him and I went in with all those numbers for identical condos. I think the appraiser decided that would not happen again and now they don't release the current year values until it is too late to protest.
