This wounded pelican knows where to find lunch. The yellow rope in front of him is the rope to my bait bucket. I keep it stocked with perch and he knows when its feeding time. He stays at the base of the steps between 108 and 201. If he gets really hungry, he will waddle up to my back steps to wait for me.
Last week he was in the mitigation site eating seaweed it appeared. I don't know if that had any medicinal value or maybe he was sifting small shrimp out of the grass. He seems to be getting stronger. He can flap his wings, but cannot get airborne. I have read that pelicans all eventually go blind from diving into the water and then starve to death.
